Havelock Info Centre - Marlborough Sounds, New Zealand

The old Havelock school has been converted into modern backpacker style accommodation and named after the school’s most famous pupil, Baron Ernest Rutherford of Nelson, creator of modern atomic physics.  Another distinguished former pupil was Dr William Pickering, an eminent scientist in space exploration in the United States.

The northern European design schoolhouse has steep gables, long windows and a wood-lined interior.

Now beautifully renovated and maintained, it retains the character of an earlier age while offering the comforts contemporary guests will expect.

In the dining room, they may have intimate meals beside the glow and warmth of a wood stove, or enjoy Marlborough Sounds mussels and snappers around a unique oak table seating up to 20 people.

For rest and retirement, double rooms, twin rooms and rooms with cosy alcoves are offset from a wide corridor area.  A large lounge area is ideal for groups of up to 25 people or can be used as a conference venue.

Campers are offered privacy and shelter with trees planted by Havelock's first school children on the large grounds.

All guests can fill in those long summer evenings in the BBQ and picnic area, or use the wide spaces for some recreational sport.

Cost of Accommodation

• Shared rooms — $25 with YHA cards $28 without
• Twin room — $30 with YHA cards and $33 without
• Double room — $60 with YHA cards and $66 without
• Camping — $12 per person

A discount of $3.00pp applies to four bed share, twin and $3.00pp for double room to holders of YHA membership cards.

Terms & Conditions

Payment is required in full for bookings to be confirmed. This can be made by providing a Visa/MasterCard name, number & expiry date or by sending a cheque to Havelock Infocentre

If you wish to cancel your bookings the following conditions apply:

• outside 14 days of product date, 90% refund.
• within 7 & 14 days of product date, 50% refund.
• inside 7 days of product date, no refund.

Havelock Infocentre reserves the right cancel any products & services booked if it feels that they cannot be undertaken safely ie: bad weather conditions. In the event of this a full refund would be applied.
